How to Make Korean Potato Side Dish (Gamja Jorim)-Sweet and Salty

Ingredients

  • 4-5 Potatoes (preferably with thin skin)
  • 1/4 Onion
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Salt
  • 2 tablespoons of Sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of Soy Sauce
  • 3 tablespoons of Sesame Oil
  • 1 teaspoon of Sesame Seed

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry the potatoes. Cut them into 1/2 inch slices.
  2. Chop the onion finely and set aside.
  3. Heat sesame oil in a pan and fry the potato slices until lightly golden.
  4. Add onion and fry for a few more minutes.
  5. Add salt, sugar, and soy sauce to the pan. Give it a good mix.
  6. Sauté for about 10 minutes until potatoes are cooked through.
  7. Sprinkle sesame seed on top and stir.
  8. Serve hot and enjoy!

Tips

You can use peanut oil or vegetable oil instead of sesame oil. You can also experiment with other ingredients such as garlic and gochujang to give your dish an extra kick.

For an even sweeter version, you can add honey or more sugar. If you like your dish more salty, add more soy sauce or fish sauce. Make sure to taste the dish as you go to get it to your liking.
